The Pastor’s Page
“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
That verse from 1 Peter 5, is great incentive to practice humility in all our dealings. Pride can be such a damaging attribute to the people we connect with, but also to those who practice it. As we practice pride, we can become egocentric, self-absorbed, even narcissistic. The alternative is to practice humility which can have incredible results for everyone involved. Perhaps the challenge is in our understanding of the term humility. It doesn’t mean being a doormat, but rather, having a consideration and respect for the people around us. This includes folks that often receive less respect in our society. Here’s a fun challenge for us. Look out for people who seem to be overlooked and acknowledge them. It can be as simple as learning the name of your server at a restaurant or the person waiting on you at the grocery store. Call them by name pleasantly and see how they light up. Be a person of gracious humility and you will make a difference in your world!

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.”
Great words from St. Paul for us in the good times and the times of struggle. Jesus tells us also that in this life we will have tribulation but to be of good cheer, because He has overcome the world. So…if we think everything is always going to be easy or if someone tells us if we live or believe a certain way then life will be without challenges, we will be continually disappointed. The truth is that life is tough but that there will also be times of hope and celebration. The key to living a fulfilled, contented Christian life is summed up in the last 3 words of the quote above. Being “constant in prayer” will keep us in continual fellowship with Jesus. Abiding in Him brings forth peace and as we get better at hearing His still small voice, He will lead us throughout our day.
