“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
-Hebrews 13:8
This Sunday we embark on a journey into the New Testament book, “The Acts of the Apostles.”
I love that we have gone all the way through the Gospel of Luke and now are going spend a
bunch of months reading Luke’s second book which reports the activity of the Holy Spirit in the
early church. It’s so important to study the Gospel’s which we know as the story of Jesus, but it
is also very important to see how the church advances through the leading of the third Person of
the Trinity. Though we are not apostles, we can still expect God to move in many similar ways
that early church experienced. Some folks believe that the extraordinary events that occurred
through the apostles came to an end with the death of John. I’m not so sure and would never
doubt the power of Jesus working through His Church today. Perhaps, it is more a deficit in our
faith than a lack of desire on God’s part. Let’s believe that the power of God is still present
through His Church today!
Expectantly,

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.”
Great words from St. Paul for us in the good times and the times of struggle. Jesus tells us also that in this life we will have tribulation but to be of good cheer, because He has overcome the world. So…if we think everything is always going to be easy or if someone tells us if we live or believe a certain way then life will be without challenges, we will be continually disappointed. The truth is that life is tough but that there will also be times of hope and celebration. The key to living a fulfilled, contented Christian life is summed up in the last 3 words of the quote above. Being “constant in prayer” will keep us in continual fellowship with Jesus. Abiding in Him brings forth peace and as we get better at hearing His still small voice, He will lead us throughout our day. By the way, if you just read this, send me an email at wakeuppc@gmail.com and I will send you a blessing!
Rejoicing in Hope,
Pastor Chris Yount
