“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter

into the joy of your master.”

Did you know that in the 38 parables that Jesus shared, 16 of those focused on stewardship. Why is it so

hard for preachers (including me) to talk about it? I remember quite a few years ago we had a guest at

the church I was serving and that happened to be the week that I spoke about giving. As the person

greeted me following the service they mentioned the subject matter of the message and guess what? I

never saw them again. Maybe that’s why pastors don’t talk about giving that much.

But take a moment to re-read the quote above from Matthew 25… We often think that Jesus is talking

about our heavenly reward. I’m not sure that’s the right take. I have found that as I practice tithing and

Holy Spirit led generosity my joy quotient increases. Elizabeth taught me many years ago that you can’t

outgive God. As He leads and I follow, He seems to provide just what we need to live and oftentimes

even more. Somehow in God’s economy our generosity is tied to our joy.

Thankfully,

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.”

Great words from St. Paul for us in the good times and the times of struggle. Jesus tells us also that in this life we will have tribulation but to be of good cheer, because He has overcome the world. So…if we think everything is always going to be easy or if someone tells us if we live or believe a certain way then life will be without challenges, we will be continually disappointed. The truth is that life is tough but that there will also be times of hope and celebration. The key to living a fulfilled, contented Christian life is summed up in the last 3 words of the quote above. Being “constant in prayer” will keep us in continual fellowship with Jesus. Abiding in Him brings forth peace and as we get better at hearing His still small voice, He will lead us throughout our day. By the way, if you just read this, send me an email at wakeuppc@gmail.com and I will send you a blessing!

Rejoicing in Hope,
