“You have not lied to men but to God.”

These accusatory words are spoken by Peter to Ananias when he lied regarding the sale price

of a property that he had sold and was donating to the early Christian Church. Ananias was

being deceptive to the Body of Christ about his supposed generosity, stating that he was more

generous than he really was. This deception might have been influenced by the way the people

had reacted to Barnabas’ act of Spirit led generosity in the passage preceding. Both Ananias

and his wife Sapphira had agreed to lie to the Church and is doing they were lying to God. How,

we ask? If the Church is truly the Body of Christ and if the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of the

believers, then they were lying to the Holy Spirit…God.

This should be a sobering fact for us to grapple, but it shouldn’t be, because all sin is ultimately

against God. Next time we’re tempted to sneak out a little white lie, let us remember Who we

are sinning against.

Honestly,

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.”

Great words from St. Paul for us in the good times and the times of struggle. Jesus tells us also that in this life we will have tribulation but to be of good cheer, because He has overcome the world. So…if we think everything is always going to be easy or if someone tells us if we live or believe a certain way then life will be without challenges, we will be continually disappointed. The truth is that life is tough but that there will also be times of hope and celebration. The key to living a fulfilled, contented Christian life is summed up in the last 3 words of the quote above. Being “constant in prayer” will keep us in continual fellowship with Jesus. Abiding in Him brings forth peace and as we get better at hearing His still small voice, He will lead us throughout our day. By the way, if you just read this, send me an email at wakeuppc@gmail.com and I will send you a blessing!

Rejoicing in Hope,

Pastor Chris Yount
